How to Type in Bijoy 52 Keyboard

The standard for professional Bangla typing

Bijoy 52 is the most widely used fixed-layout keyboard for Bengali. Unlike Avro, it maps specific Bangla characters to specific keys. This guide covers the exact mappings used in BanglaType lessons.

1. Vowels (Shoroborno)

In Bijoy, vowels are often typed using the Link Key (g) + another key, or using Shift.

2. Consonants (Banjonborno)

Each key on the keyboard maps to a specific consonant. Shift is used to access the secondary character on each key.

3. Vowel Signs (Kar) Rules

In Bijoy, the order of typing matters. Some vowel signs are typed before the consonant, and some after.

Type BEFORE Consonant

  • ি (I-Kar)d
  • ে (E-Kar)c
  • ৈ (Oi-Kar)Shift+c
Example: দিন = d + l + b (ি + দ + ন)

Type AFTER Consonant

  • া (Aa-Kar)f
  • ী (Ee-Kar)Shift+d
  • ু (U-Kar)s
  • ূ (Uu-Kar)Shift+s
  • ৃ (Ri-Kar)a
Example: মা = m + f (ম + া)

4. Juktoborno (Conjuncts)

To create a conjunct character (Juktoborno) in Bijoy, you must use the Link Key (g) between two consonants.

Formula: Consonant 1 + g + Consonant 2

Pro Tip: The 'x' and 'z' Keys

  • x: Used for 'O' (ও) or 'O-Kar' (ো) depending on context.
  • z: Used for 'Ra-Fola' (্র). Example: প্ৰ = r + z.
  • Shift+z: Used for 'Ja-Fola' (্য). Example: ক্য = j + Shift+z.
